What is VEGABON (Alendronic Acid) and what is it used for?

Osteoporosis is the melting and weakening of bones. It is common in women after menopause. However, it can also be seen in men. In menopause, the ovaries stop producing the female hormone estrogen, which helps the woman to have a healthy skeleton. As a result, bone loss occurs and the bone weakens. The earlier a woman reaches menopause, the greater the risk of osteoporosis.

There are usually no symptoms at the onset of osteoporosis. However, if left untreated, bone fracture may occur. Although fractures are often painful, fractures in the spinal bone may not be noticed until they cause height loss. Fractures can occur during normal daily activity, such as lifting, or from minor injuries that usually do not cause normal bone to break. Fractures usually occur in the hip, spine, or wrist and can cause both pain and significant deformities and disability (such as hunchbacked posture and loss of motion due to curvature of the spine).

How can osteoporosis be treated?

Osteoporosis is treatable and it's never too late to start treatment. VEGABON (Alendronic Acid) not only prevents bone loss but also helps rebuild lost bones and reduces the likelihood of fractures in the hip and spine.

Also, your doctor may suggest that you make the following changes in your lifestyle:

Quitting smoking: It is known that smoking increases the rate of bone loss and therefore the risk of fractures.

Exercise: Like muscles, bones need exercise to stay strong and healthy. Before starting any exercise program, consult your doctor.

Balanced diet: Your doctor may recommend that you change your diet or take nutritional supplements.
