1. What is DIAMICRON MR and what is it used for?

• DIAMICRON MR is available in white, stick-shaped blister packs of 30, 60 and 90 tablets with DIA 60 printed on both sides.

• DIAMICRON MR reduces the level of sugar in the blood (oral antidiabetic belonging to the sulfonylurea group).

• DIAMICRON MR is used in the treatment of insulin-independent (type 2 ) diabetes in adults when diet, physical exercise and weight loss alone are insufficient to control blood sugar.

2. How to use DIAMICRON MR?

Instructions for proper use and dose/frequency of administration

• Diamicron MR should definitely be used at the dose recommended by your doctor. If you are not sure, consult your doctor. Doses are determined by your doctor according to your blood and urine sugar levels.

• Changes in external factors (eg weight loss, change in lifestyle, stress) or improvement in your blood sugar may require dose adjustment.

• The recommended dose ranges from half to 2 tablets (maximum 120 mg) a day, usually with breakfast, in one go, depending on your response to treatment.

• If combined treatment with DIAMICRON MR and metformin (alphaflucosidase inhibitor) is applied, or if insulin is started, your doctor will determine the doses you need to use for each drug, depending on your condition.

Application route and method

• It is used orally.

• Tablets are swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water together with breakfast. Make sure to take the tablets at the same time each day.

• You must eat after taking the tablets.

different age groups

Use in children and adolescents (under 18 years):

Use in the elderly

Special use cases

Renal impairment: It is used in patients with mild and moderate renal impairment, as in patients with normal renal function, provided that careful monitoring is provided. If you have an impression that the effect of DIAMICRON MR is strong or weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

If you use more DIAMICRON MR than you should

If you have used more than you should use from DIAMICRON MR, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.

Excessive use of DIAMICRON MR may result in hypoglycaemia (see 'Warnings'). In this case, you should immediately eat 4-6 sugar cubes or drink a sugary drink and then eat.

If the patient is unconscious, the doctor should be informed IMMEDIATELY and the patient should be taken to the nearest hospital emergency department. If the patient is unconscious, no food or drink should be given. If another person (eg a child) accidentally takes the medicine, the same precautions should be followed. Be sure to have someone with you who knows your situation and will notify the doctor in case of emergency.

If you forget to use DIAMICRON MR

For treatment to be effective, doses must be taken regularly at the same time each day. If you forget to take your medicine, take this dose as soon as you realize you forgot it and take the next dose at the usual time.

If it is close to the time of the next dose when you realize you have forgotten it, then skip the missed dose.

Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten doses.

Effects that may occur when treatment with DIAMICRON MR is terminated

Type 2 diabetes usually lasts a lifetime. Do not interrupt your treatment without consulting your doctor. Stopping your treatment may cause your diabetes not to be controlled and cause hyperglycemia (increased sugar level in the blood). If you have any questions about this product, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

3. What are the possible side effects?

As with all medicines, there may be side effects in people who are sensitive to the substances contained in DIAMICRON MR.

If any of the following occur, stop using DIAMICRON MR and IMMEDIATELY inform your doctor or contact your nearest hospital emergency department.

• The most common side effect is a decrease in blood sugar level (hypoglycemia). If symptoms are not treated, it can lead to drowsiness, unconsciousness or even coma. In case of prolonged or severe hypoglycemia (decreased blood sugar level) despite taking sugar, notify your doctor immediately or contact the emergency department of the nearest hospital.

Decreased blood sugar level (hypoglycemia) is a very serious side effect of DIAMICRON MR and usually occurs when the drug is taken in excessive doses (for symptoms, see "USE DIAMICRON MR CAREFULLY in the following conditions").

If you notice any of the following, tell your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital emergency department:
