2.What is GLUCOBAY and what is it used for?
• GLUCOBAY is available in tablet form and each tablet contains 50 mg acarbose.
• Acarbose, the active ingredient of GLUCOBAY, is an alpha glucosidase inhibitor. GLUCOBAY is a drug used in the oral treatment of diabetes. It shows its effect by preventing the effect of the enzyme that enables the breakdown of sugars in the small intestines. Thus, the digestion of sugars is delayed and its mixing into the blood slows down. With this effect, GLUCOBAY reduces the increase in blood sugar seen after meals.
• GLUCOBAY is available in packages containing 30, 60 and 90 tablets. The tablets are white-yellow in color and round. The tablets have 'G 50' printed on one side and the Bayer logo on the other side.
• GLUCOBAY is used together with diet in the treatment of diabetes and together with diet and exercise to prevent the onset of diabetes in patients with latent sugar.
• Hidden sugar is defined as a postprandial blood glucose value between 140-200 mg / dl and fasting blood glucose value between 100125 mg / dl.
