What is LEUKERAN and what is it used for?

LEUKERAN is a member of a group of drugs called alkylating agents (cytotoxics, also called chemotherapy). It contains an active substance called chlorambucil. This drug is used in the treatment of some types of cancer that affect the human blood and lymphatic system. Your doctor will explain how LEUKERAN can help in your case.

LEUKERAN is available in brown-colored round tablets in amber-colored glass bottles with childproof lock. One bottle contains 25 or 100 tablets.

LEUKERAN is used in the treatment of the following diseases:

• In the treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The group of diseases formed in this way are called lymphomas. Cancers arising from lymphatic system cells.

• In the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It is a type of blood cancer in which the bone marrow produces too many abnormal white blood cells.

• In the treatment of waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia. It is a rare lymphoma associated with excessive proliferation of B-lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell; leads to abnormal protein release in the blood.
3. How to use LEUKERAN?

Always use LEUKERAN exactly as directed by your doctor. If you are not sure, check with your doctor.

LEUKERAN should only be used under the supervision of physicians experienced in the administration of cancer treatment. Your doctor will tell you how much and how often you need to take this medicine. Your dosage will be adjusted according to your body weight and illness.

While you are under LEUKERAN treatment, your doctor will do regular blood tests to check the number of cells in your blood and may adjust your medication dose according to the result.
Instructions for appropriate use and dose / frequency of administration

Use in adults

In the treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma:

The general dose recommended in advanced disease is 0.2 mg / kg / day administered for 4-8 weeks.
In the treatment of non-hodgkin lymphoma:

The recommended general starting dose is 0.1 - 0.2 mg / kg / day administered for 4 - 8 weeks. The treatment is then continued as a reduced daily dose or as an intermittent dose.
In the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia:

The recommended starting dose is 0.15 mg / kg / day. After the first cycle, the treatment is continued with a dose of 0.1 mg / kg / day applied for 4 weeks.
In the treatment of waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia:

The recommended starting dose is 6-12 mg. Following this, administration of 2-8 mg per day is continued for a while.
Application route and method

LEUKERAN is taken by mouth. It is known that food intake affects LEUKERAN absorption. Therefore, LEUKERAN is recommended to be taken on an empty stomach (one hour before or 3 hours after meals).

It is important that you take your medicine on time. Take LEUKERAN tablets with some water.

Do not crush, crush or chew the tablets.

LEUKERAN can be used in the treatment of hodgkin and non-hodgkin lymphoma in children. Dose administration is similar to that in adults.

4. What are the possible side effects?

Like all medicines, LEUKERAN may have side effects in people who are sensitive to the substances contained in its content.

If any of the following occur, stop using LEUKERAN and IMMEDIATELY inform your doctor or contact the emergency department of your nearest hospital

• Any fever or signs of infection (sore throat, mouth sores, or urinary problems). LEUKERAN treatment may cause a decrease in the number of white cells in your blood. White blood cells fight infections, and if our white blood cell count falls too low, infections can occur.

Any unexpected bruising or bleeding; It may mean that certain types of blood cells are produced in very small numbers.

• If you suddenly begin to feel sick (even if your temperature is normal).

• You start to feel extremely tired.

• If you notice numbness or weakness in your muscles.

• If you have skin rashes, skin blisters, mouth or eye sores, and high fever.
