1. What is LOPERMID (Generic imodium) and what is it used for?

    LOPERMID (Generic imodium) tablets are white, round, smooth-edged tablets. It is available in blister packs of 20 tablets in the box.
    LOPERMID (Generic imodium) contains 2 mg of loperamide HCl as an active ingredient.
    Loperamide acts directly on the intestinal muscles and inhibits intestinal motility. As a result, the transit time of the intestinal contents through the intestine is prolonged and the daily feces amount decreases. Fluid and electrolyte loss is prevented.
    LOPERMID (Generic imodium) is used in the following conditions:

    Treatment of chronic (long-lasting) diarrhea with acute exacerbation attacks lasting up to 5 days in children over 9 years old and adults,

    Treatment of prolonged diarrhea in adults,

    Treatment of acute diarrhea in adults and children over 12 years of age,

    For the treatment of acute diarrhea with initial diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome in adults over 18 years of age.


2. How to use LOPERMID (Generic imodium)?


Instructions for proper use and dose/frequency of administration

In the treatment of sudden onset (acute) diarrhea;

In children over 12 years old, adults and the elderly, treatment is started with 2 tablets (4 mg) and 1 more tablet (2 mg) is given after each watery stool. The daily dose should not exceed 8 tablets (16 mg).

The average daily dose is 3-4 tablets.

Clinical response to treatment is usually obtained within the first 48 hours.

in children aged 9-12; 1 tablet (2 mg) should be taken 4 times a day until diarrhea is controlled, for a maximum of 5 days.

It should be used under the supervision of a doctor in children between the ages of 9-12.

In the treatment of long-term diarrhea in adults and the elderly;

In adults, treatment should be started with 2 or 4 tablets per day in divided doses, depending on the severity of the disease. The daily dose can be increased up to a maximum of 8 tablets (16 mg).

In the symptomatic treatment of diarrhea associated with irritable bowel syndrome in adults and the elderly;

3. What are the possible side effects?



Like all medicines, there may be side effects in people who are sensitive to the ingredients of LOPERMID (Generic imodium).

It is not easy to detect the side effects of LOPERMID (Generic imodium) due to the symptoms already seen in the case of diarrhea. However, the side effects seen are not very serious and occur mostly in the treatment of diarrhea that lasts for a long time.

4.Before you use LOPERMID (Generic imodium)


DO NOT USE LOPERMID (Generic imodium) in the following conditions

If you are constipated or have a condition where you need to avoid constipation,
Do not use if you have abdominal pain due to intestinal inflammation, paralysis of intestinal muscles (immobility) or pseudomembranous colitis (intestinal inflammation with bloody, watery diarrhea due to long-term antibiotic use).

Do not use LOPERMID (Generic imodium) alone in dysentery.

Drugs that reduce bowel movements, such as LOPERMID (Generic imodium), can cause toxic megacolon (a disease condition in which all or part of the large intestine is abnormally enlarged) in people with ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the large intestine). Therefore, discontinue LOPERMID (Generic imodium) treatment if abdominal tension or some unexpected symptoms occur.

In case of sudden (acute) diarrhea, do not continue the treatment if you do not get a response from the treatment within 48 hours. If diarrhea does not stop within a few days or if your fever rises, tell your doctor.
