1. What is LOPID and what is it used for?

Available in packs of LOPID 30 and 100 tablets. LOPID is a white, elliptical film-coated tablet.

LOPID belongs to a class of drugs called fibrates that control fats (lipids). Contains the active ingredient Gemfibrozil. LOPID reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) and fats (lipids) known as triglycerides, while increasing the good cholesterol (HDL) in your blood.

LOPID prevents cholesterol and fat from accumulating along your artery walls (a process known as atherosclerosis); This accumulation prevents your blood flow to your vital organs. It reduces your chances of getting heart disease, chest pain (angina), stroke and heart attack. LOPID can be used to prevent heart attack in men (which may not have "bad cholesterol") when other drugs (statins) cannot be used.

LOPID should be used in conjunction with other methods of reducing body fat, such as exercise, dietary changes, and weight loss.

2.How to use LOPID?

In addition, your doctor will advise you on proper nutrition, exercise, quitting smoking, reducing alcohol and losing weight if necessary.

The usual starting dose is between 900 mg and 1200 mg per day. Your doctor will decide the best dose for you. Follow the instructions given on the label. If you are advised to take a 1200 mg dose, you will need to take one 600 mg tablet half an hour before your breakfast and the second 600 mg tablet half an hour before your evening meal.

3. What are the possible side effects?
