Active ingredient
Each film-coated tablet contains 5 mg of finasteride.

Excipients
Microcrystalline cellulose, docusate sodium, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, pregelatinized corn starch, sodium starch glycolate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, methylhydroxypropyl cellulose, talc, yellow iron oxide, titanium dioxide, indigo carmine aluminum lacquer.

1.What is PROSCAR and what is it used for?


PROSCAR is presented in blister pack containing 28 film-coated tablets.

PROSCAR is a blue, apple-shaped, film-coated tablet with MSD 72 on one side and PROSCAR on the other side. Each film tablet contains 5 mg of finasteride.

PROSCAR contains a medicine called finasteride. PROSCAR belongs to a group of drugs known as 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.

PROSCAR is used to treat benign prostate gland enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH). This disease occurs only in men. PROSCAR shrinks the enlarged prostate gland in men. Your prostate gland is located under your bladder. It produces the liquid contained in the semen. An enlarged prostate gland can lead to a condition called "prostatic hyperplasia" (BPH).

What is BPH?

If you have BPH, it means that your prostate gland is enlarged. It can put pressure on the tube through which urine passes as it exits the body.

This can cause some problems, for example:

    feeling the need to urinate more often, especially at night
    feeling the need to urinate right away
    difficulty starting to urinate
    when urinating, the flow of urine is weak
    When urinating, the flow of urine stops and starts again
    feeling that you cannot completely empty your bladder.

    For some men, BPH can be very serious. These,
    urinary tract infections,
    Sudden loss of the ability to urinate (acute urinary retention),


2. How to use PROSCAR?

Instructions for proper use and dose/frequency of administration
Always use PROSCAR as recommended by your doctor. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose for PROSCAR is 5 mg (1 tablet) once daily.
Your doctor may prescribe PROSCAR together with another medicine called doxazosin to help treat BPH.

No dosage adjustment is required in the elderly.

Special use cases

Kidney/Liver failure

No special dose adjustment is required in patients with renal impairment. Caution should be exercised when PROSCAR is administered to patients with hepatic impairment.

If you have the impression that the effect of PROSCAR is too strong or weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

If you use more PROSCAR than you should

If you have used more than you should use from PROSCAR, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.

If you forget to use PROSCAR

If you forget to take a tablet, skip the missed dose.

Take the next dose as usual.

Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten doses.


3. What are the possible side effects?

Like all Medicines, PROSCAR can cause side effects, but side effects are not seen in everyone.

The frequencies of possible side effects are as follows:

Very common (more than 1 in 10 patients)

Common (less than 1 in 10 but more than 1 in 100 patients)

Uncommon (less than 1 in 100 but more than 1 in 1000 patients)

Rare (less than 1 in 1000 but more than 1 in 10,000 patients)

Very rare (less than 1 in 10000 patients)

Frequency unknown (cannot be estimated from the available data)

If any of the following occur, stop taking PROSCAR and IMMEDIATELY inform your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency department:
skin rash
Itching or lumps under your skin (urticaria)
Swelling of the face, tongue, throat and lips

These are all very serious side effects.

If you have one of these, it means you have a serious allergy to PROSCAR. You may need emergency medical attention or hospitalization.

All of these very serious side effects are very rare.

Other side effects may include:

Common side effects:
Your desire to have sexual intercourse may decrease.

Uncommon side effects:

« You may have difficulty achieving an erection (impotence)
Swelling or tenderness in the breast, enlargement

Side effects with unknown frequency:

• You may experience ejaculation problems, including a decrease in the amount of semen secreted during sex. This reduction is not thought to affect normal sexual function.
Palpitations (feeling your heartbeat)
Changes in the way your liver works (can be detected by blood tests)
pain in testicles
Inability to achieve an erection; may continue after stopping treatment
