REMINYL 8 mg extended-release capsules To be taken by mouth.

Active ingredient
Each extended-release capsule contains 10.25 mg of galantamine hydrobromide equivalent to 8 mg of galantamine.

Excipients
Diethyl phthalate, ethylcellulose, hypromellose, macrogol 400, propylene glycol, shellac, black iron oxide, sucrose, corn starch, gelatin (from bovine bone), titanium dioxide.

1. What is REMINYL and what is it used for?

Each of REMINYL 8 mg extended release capsules contains 10.25 mg galantamine hydrobromide equivalent to 8 mg galantamine as active ingredient.

Capsules are produced in an extended-release form. This means a slow release of the drug from the capsule.

REMINYL belongs to a group of medicines called antidementia medicines.

It is presented in packages containing 28 capsules.

REMINYL is used in adults to treat symptoms of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease, a type of dementia that changes brain function. Alzheimer's disease leads to increased memory loss, confusion, and behavioral changes that make it increasingly difficult to perform normal daily activities. These effects are thought to be due to a lack of "acetylcholine", a substance responsible for transmitting messages between brain cells. REMINYL increases the amount of acetylcholine in the brain and treats the symptoms of the disease.

2. How to use REMINYL?

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure about anything.

If you are currently taking REMINYL oral solution and your doctor has told you to switch to REMINYL extended-release capsules, carefully read the instructions under the heading “Switching from REMINYL oral solution to REMINYL extended-release capsules” in this section.
Instructions for proper use and dose/frequency of administration

You will start your REMINYL treatment with a low dose. The usual dose is 8 mg taken once a day. Your doctor may gradually increase your dose at intervals of 4 weeks or longer until you reach the most suitable dose for you. The maximum dose is 24 mg taken once a day.

Your doctor will explain which dose to start with and when to increase the dose. If you are not sure what to do or if you think the effect of REMINYL is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Switching from REMINYL oral solution to REMINYL extended-release capsules

If you are currently taking REMINYL oral solution, your doctor may decide that you should switch to REMINYL extended-release capsule therapy. If this applies to you:

Take the last dose of REMINYL oral solution in the evening.

Take the first dose of REMINYL extended-release capsules the next morning.

Do not take more than one capsule in a day. Do not take REMINYL oral solution while taking REMINYL capsules.

It is taken orally.

Take your REMINYL capsule once a day in the morning with water or other liquids. Try to take your REMINYL dose with food.

Swallow the capsules whole, without chewing or crushing them. Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration during your treatment with REMINYL.

Special use cases
Kidney failure

If you have kidney failure, your doctor may give you a reduced dose of REMINYL or decide that this medicine is not suitable for you.
Liver failure

If you have liver failure, your doctor may give you a reduced dose of REMINYL or decide that this medicine is not suitable for you.

If you have the impression that the effect of REMINYL is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you use more REMINYL than you should

If you have used more than you should use REMINYL, contact your doctor or a hospital immediately. Take the remaining capsule and packaging with you. In high doses, the following symptoms may occur:

Muscle weakness, slow heartbeat, seizures and unconsciousness. Severe nausea and vomiting.

3. What are the possible side effects?

Like all medicines, there may be side effects in people who are sensitive to the substances contained in REMINYL.

Beware of serious side effects.

If any of the following occur, stop using REMINYL and IMMEDIATELY inform your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency department:

skin reactions (including:)

- Blisters and skin eruptions, especially around the mouth, nose, eyes and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

- Red rashes spreading to the whole body, sometimes accompanied by fever (acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis).

- Redness causing blisters that develop with spots that look like small foci.
