• Empagliflozin works by blocking a protein called “sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2)” in the kidneys. SGLT2 prevents glucose from being excreted in the urine by allowing glucose to be reabsorbed into the bloodstream during filtration of the blood through the kidneys. The drug blocks this protein, allowing blood sugar, sodium (salt) and water to be excreted in the urine. This lowers your blood sugar levels, which are too high because of your Type 2 diabetes. This medicine may also be helpful in preventing heart disease.

• Metformin lowers blood sugar levels in another way. Mainly, it inhibits the formation of glucose in the liver.

SYNJARDY, in adult patients (18 years of age and older) with Type 2 diabetes (Type 2 diabetes) whose disease cannot be controlled with metformin added to diet and exercise or with metformin + other diabetes medications added to diet and exercise, is recommended to use diet and exercise for the treatment of this disease. used additionally.

SYNJARDY can also be used with other medicines used to treat diabetes. These drugs can be oral medications or they can be given by injection, such as insulin.

Also, as an alternative to empagliflozin and metformin, which are currently used as separate tablets, SYNJARDY can be used as a single tablet. If you start using this medicine, do not use empagliflozin and metformin tablets that you took separately to prevent overdose.

It is very important that you continue to follow the diet and exercise plan recommended by your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.

What is type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is a disease caused by your genes and lifestyle. If you have Type 2 diabetes, your pancreas does not make enough insulin to control the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood, and your body cannot use its own insulin effectively. In this case, the level of glucose in your blood rises and can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, blindness and poor circulation in your limbs.

2.How to use SYNJARDY?

Always take your medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Instructions for proper use and dose/frequency of administration

The dose of SYNJARDY will vary depending on your condition and the dose of diabetes medications you are currently taking. Your doctor will adjust the appropriate dose for you as needed and will tell you exactly what strength of your medicine to use.

The recommended dose is one tablet twice a day. Your doctor will normally start your treatment by prescribing the dose of metformin you are using (850 mg or 1000 mg twice daily) and the tablet strength that will provide the lowest dose of empagliflozin (5 mg twice daily). If you are still using these drugs as separate tablets, your doctor will start your treatment with a SYNJARDY tablet that will allow you to take the same amounts of these two active substances. If you have decreased kidney function, your doctor may lower your dose.

Application route and method

- Take your medicine with food to reduce the possibility of stomach discomfort.

Your doctor may prescribe SYNJARDY for use with another diabetes medication. To achieve the best results for your health, use your medicines exactly as your doctor has told you. Your doctor may need to adjust the dose of your medicine to keep your blood sugar under control.
