Active ingredient
Contains mg of imipramine hydrochloride.

Excipients

1. What TOFRANIL is and what it is used for

TOFRANIL belongs to a group of medicines known as tricyclic antidepressants used in the treatment of depression and mood disorders.

Other physiological conditions that can be treated with TOFRANIL include panic disorder, chronic painful conditions, and bedwetting in children over 5 years old.

TOFRANIL is available in the form of reddish-brown, round biconvex dragees, containing 50 dragee in each box.

2. How to use TOFRANIL?

Instructions for proper use and dose/frequency of administration

Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Your doctor will decide the most appropriate dose for you based on your situation.

For depression and mood disorders, the daily dosage is usually 50mg to 100mg.

For panic attacks, treatment is usually started with 10 mg per day and after a few days the dose is gradually increased to 75 mg to 150 mg.

For chronic painful conditions, the daily dosage is usually between 25mg and 75mg. For bedwetting conditions in children (5 years and older), the daily dosage is usually between 20 mg and 80 mg, depending on the child's age.

You should use TOFRANIL exactly as your doctor has told you. Do not take unprescribed excess doses of TOFRANIL, do not use the drug more often or for a longer period of time than your doctor has told you.

Depression and chronic anxiety conditions require long-term treatment with TOFRANIL.
Do not change or interrupt your treatment without consulting your doctor.

If you have used more than you should use TOFRANIL, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.

If you accidentally take more TOFRANIL than your doctor has told you, talk to your doctor right away. You may need to seek medical care.

The following overdose symptoms usually occur within a few hours: severe drowsiness; difficulty concentrating; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; restlessness and agitation; loss of muscle coordination and muscle stiffness; shortness of breath; seizures; vomiting; fire.

3. What are the possible side effects?

Like all medicines, there may be side effects in people who are sensitive to the substances contained in TOFRANIL.

The following side effects may occur as a result of using TOFRANIL:

If any of the following occur, stop using TOFRANIL and IMMEDIATELY inform your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency department:

• Seeing or hearing things that are not real

Developing infections with frequent fever and sore throat (due to decreased white blood cell count)
Allergic reactions with or without coughing and breathing difficulties

• Difficulty in maintaining movement balance

Sudden contractions in the muscles

• Difficulty urinating
