Xalatan (Latanoprost) 0.005% Eye Drops

XALATAN 0.005% eye drops Instilled into the eye.

Active ingredient
Each ml contains 50 micrograms of latanoprost.

Excipients
Sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate monohydrate, disodium phosphate anhydrous, benzalkonium chloride and water for injections.

1. How to use XALATAN?

Instructions for proper use and dose/frequency of administration

Always use XALATAN exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

When you open Xalatan for the first time, write the date you opened the bottle in the space you see on the box, so that you do not exceed the 4 weeks of use after opening the drug.

The dose for adults and children is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily. Better results are obtained when the drug is dripped in the evening.

Do not use XALATAN more than once a day, because if you use Xalatan too often, the effectiveness of the treatment may be reduced.

Use XALATAN as your doctor tells you to stop using it.

Contact lens wearers:

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before putting the medicine in your eyes. You can put your lens back on at least fifteen minutes after Xalatan is instilled.

2. What are the possible side effects?

Like all medicines, there may be side effects in people who are sensitive to the substances contained in XALATAN.

Very common effects (likely to affect more than 1 in 10 people):
A gradual change in your eye color due to an increase in the amount of brown pigment in the colored part of the eye, known as the iris. If your eye color is a mixture of several colors (such as blue-brown, gray-brown, yellow-brown or green-brown), you are more likely to experience this side effect than those with a single eye color (blue, gray, green or brown eyes). . It may take years for the change in eye color to occur, and it can usually be noticed within 8 months of treatment.
The color change may be permanent and may be more noticeable if you are using Xalatan for only one eye. Eye color change does not cause any other problems.
Eye color change does not persist after Xalatan treatment is stopped.

• Eye irritation (burning, stinging, itching and foreign body sensation)

• Change in eyelashes and quince hairs in the treated eye (lengthening, darkening, thickening, increase in number)

Common effects (likely to affect less than 1 in 10 people):
Irritation or disorder of the surface of the eye, inflammation of the eyelid (blepharitis) and pain in the eye.

Uncommon effects (may affect less than 1 in 100 people):
Swelling of the eyelid, dryness of the eye, inflammation or irritation of the surface of the eye (keratitis), blurred vision and inflammation of the clear membrane that covers the surface of the eye (conjunctivitis).
Skin rash.

Infrequent effects (may affect less than 1 in 1000 people):
Inflammation of the iris, the colored part of the eye (iritis/uveitis); swelling of the retina (macular edema), swelling or symptoms of peeling/damage to the surface of the eye, swelling around the eye (periorbital edema), misdirected eyelashes or an extra row of eyelashes.
Skin reactions on the eyelids, darkening of the skin of the eyelids.
Asthma, worsening of asthma, acute asthma attacks and shortness of breath (dyspnea).

Very rare effects (may affect less than 1 in 10,000 people):
Worsening of angina in patients with heart disease
chest pain

Headache
drowsiness (dizziness)
Palpitation
muscle pain
Joint pain
Fluid-filled area within the colored part of the eye (eye cyst)
Developing a viral infection in the eye caused by a virus called herpes simplex

Side effects more common in children than adults: runny nose and itching, fever

3. Things to consider before using XALATAN

DO NOT USE XALATAN in the following conditions

If you or your child

    If you have ever had an allergic reaction to the active substance latanoprost or any of the excipients of XALATAN.
    If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant
    if you are breastfeeding.

    USE XALATAN CAREFULLY in the following situations

    If you or your child
    If you have had or are about to have eye surgery (including cataract surgery).
    If you have eye problems (eg eye pain, irritation or inflammation, blurred vision).
    If you know you have dry eyes.
    If you have severe asthma or if your asthma is not well controlled.
    If you wear contact lenses, you can still use XALATAN, but follow the instructions for contact lens wearers in section 3.
    If you have or have ever had an eye infection caused by a virus called herpes simplex.

    If these warnings apply to you, even at any time in the past, please consult your doctor.

    Using XALATAN with food and drink
