2.What is XELTABIN and what is it used for?
XELTABIN belongs to a group of drugs called "Cytostatic agents" that stop the growth of cancer cells.
Xeloda contains 500 mg capecitabine, which is not itself a cytotoxic agent (kills the cell or stops its functions). After absorption by the body, it turns into a cytotoxic substance inside the tumor cell.
XELTABIN 500 mg printed “500” on one side and flat on the other side; It is a peach colored, oblong, biconvex film-coated tablet and each box contains 120 tablets.
XELTABIN is used in the treatment of cancers of the large intestine, the end of the large intestine (rectum), stomach or breast cancers. In addition, XELTABIN can be prescribed by your doctor after complete removal of the tumor by surgery to prevent recurrence of colon cancer.
3.How to use XELTABIN?
Your doctor will prescribe a dosage and treatment regimen that is right for you. The dose of XELTABIN is adjusted according to the body surface area. This is calculated from your height and weight. The starting dose for adults is 1250 mg / m2 administered twice daily (morning and evening). There are two examples here: a person with a body weight of 64 kg and a height of 1.64 m has a body surface area of 1.7 m2 and should take 4 tablets of 500 mg and 1 tablet of 150 mg twice a day. A person with a body weight of 80 kg and a height of 1.80 m has a body surface area of 2.00 m2 and should take 5 tablets of 500 mg twice a day.
XELTABIN tablets are usually taken for 14 days, followed by a 7-day rest period. This 21 day period is one treatment cycle.
In combination with other agents, the initial dose for adults may be less than 1250 mg / m2 and you may need to take the tablets over a different time period (eg every day without a rest period).
Your doctor will tell you how much dose you need, when to take it and for how long.
Your doctor may want you to take a combination of 150 mg and 500 mg tablets for each dose.
• For morning and evening doses, take the combination tablets as prescribed by your doctor.
Take the tablets within 30 minutes after meals (breakfast and dinner).
